Source1 Purchasing Uses Technology, Social Media to Drive Tradeshow Success and Enhance the Guest Experience

November 9, 2015, Lake Worth Beach, FL – When Source1 Purchasing, a leading national purchasing services organization for the lodging, leisure, restaurant and gaming industries, decided to implement technology and social media as a means to drive tradeshow engagement and maximize effectiveness, they did it like they do everything, by providing partner benefits to customers, without complex messaging.

Recently the Source1 technology and marketing teams worked together to develop an integrated plan leveraging technology to increase traffic, engage booth visitors and facilitate lead follow-up. Engagement occurred in various ways at multiple stages of the sales cycle, from pre-show registration to drive booth traffic, to on the ground show management, to post-show lead management and brand building through Social Media shares and promotion.

In a series of targeted, pre-show email blasts attendees were invited to stop by the Source1 booth to collect a complimentary pair of sunglasses, and see “Savings so Bright They Have to Wear Shades.” Once at the booth, customers used a proprietary tool, to access a Source1 database and were then asked to update all enrollment information. This system assured that leads would not fall away after the show due to inaccurate contact information.

After updating their information, they were welcome to participate in a Source1-sponsored contest on social media. Each booth visitor had the chance to take a “selfie” with the Pillsbury Doughboy (Pillsbury is a strategic partner for Source1) and post it to Social Media. The customer with the most likes and shares of their photo won the contest and received the picture in a Hawaiian frame, a custom jib jab video, and a Starbucks gift card. The prizes were themed to correspond with the trade show, which took place in Hawaii.

“Engaging customers in a way that is entertaining while being useful to them and their businesses is win-win, and we immediately saw increased engagement,” said Marcy Larson, Vice President of Marketing for Source1 Purchasing. “We accomplished this in a way that is emblematic of the way we typically do business, with creativity, smarts, and ultimately success.” Source1 Purchasing closed significant business at the show and now have a multitude of engaged leads for their sales team to follow-up on.

Since Source1 was founded nearly 22 years ago, the company has grown to become a leading, national supply chain performance management company in the hospitality and lodging industries. Source1 uses purchasing analytics to provide valuable insights to its purchasing partners, allowing them to purchase in ways that save money and accelerate profit margins. The company’s operator-centric approach, years of experience, and $7 billion in purchasing power, enables operators to enhance the guest experience and build profitability.

The ABC’s of PSOs vs. GPOs

Lake Worth Beach, Fla., July 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — With so many players in the game, the business of purchasing can become an administrative and managerial challenge for the lodging, foodservice and hospitality industries. What’s right for their business and who has the operators’ best interests at heart?

Much of that depends on what type of organization an operator uses to help make its purchasing decisions.  But with the landscape varied and evolving from Group Purchasing Organizations (GPO) to Purchasing Services Organizations (PSO), what are the differences and how can operators be sure what’s best for their operation?

Source1 Purchasing is one example of a PSO that is changing operators’ purchasing landscape for the better. With $7 billion in purchasing power, Source1 specializes in providing cost management, savings, and operational efficiencies for the lodging, hospitality and entertainment industries, helping operators increase profits through purchasing. Unlike a GPO, this innovative approach improves the purchasing experience and passes the promotions, rebates and savings directly to the operators.

“Source1 came into business from the operator’s side of the equation. Our overarching principle is partnership,” said Scott Hoffmire, President and CEO, Source1 Purchasing, “We guide our members to get the most value from our program and connect them to savings through service and support.”

That philosophy seems to be working. Source1 negotiates low prices and passes all of the rebates and discounts to their purchasing partners. The company competes with market leaders by forming new partnerships and managing a client portfolio with over 3,000 customers. Additionally, Source1 has experienced over 99.55% customer retention for the past five years with a customer satisfaction rate of 98.5% for seven years. Purchasing partnerships provide respect and support, and for organizations like Source1, there are no long-term contracts but handshake agreements, knowing that customers can vote with their feet – just as a provider’s guest might also do.  Keeping customers happy is critical.

Another key differentiator between a PSO and GPO is that with a PSO there are no compliance minimums.  A PSO moves its members along the compliance continuum, guiding them to buy more from the program only if it suits the operators’ best interests, not the GPO’s. With a PSO, the primary benefit will always accrue to the operator.

For quite some time, GPOs have been helping businesses combine their purchasing power with others to reap the benefits of better discounts through economies of scale. However, while the GPO model has worked for a long time, it does have its shortcomings and restrictions. Among others, it can create problems in obtaining the best pricing and services once a vendor has been chosen by the GPO.

Lately the landscape has changed even more, with some distributors even getting into the purchasing arena. Yet, while Hoffmire explains that distributors play an important role in purchasing, operators should be reminded that distributors are designed and compensated to sell, not service.

“A PSO is an advocate for the operator and a neutral intermediary,” said Hoffmire.”We have no axe to grind in terms of what we’ll recommend. If something’s not right for our partner’s business, we’ll never make that purchasing recommendation.”

Source1 provides an engaged and dedicated customer service team, business reviews and other analytic tools to improve purchasing practices and unlock value in the supply chain. And a PSO provides non-food contracts and programs, unlike a distributor.

“We respect our members and their brands, and the things that make them special,” said Hoffmire. “In short, their success is our success, and what’s best for their business is our goal,” he concluded.

Source1 Purchasing Rebate Funds Culinary Scholarships

Source1 Purchasing, a leading national supply chain performance management company is always pleased when its purchasing partners realize the many benefits of working together. But one organization in particular has yielded even more of a return on their investment by partnering with Source1. The Culinary Institute LeNôtre, the largest cooking and pastry chef school in Houston, Texas, is turning its Source1 rebates into scholarships for their students – providing education for the next generation of culinary and hospitality industry executives.

“The rebate is held in our in-house scholarship fund and awarded to deserving students in dollar amounts that usually range from $500 to $5,000 per year, which are given every 10 weeks,” said Kris Jakob, Vice President/Director of Culinary Arts, Culinary Institute LeNôtre.

Purchasing rebates have historically been complicated for operators, with many inadvertently leaving money on the table due to the notorious paperwork and logistical challenges the process requires. But Source1 streamlines the rebate process for its partners in the lodging, leisure, restaurant and gaming industries.

By automatically keeping track of purchasing, and facilitating the entire rebate procedure, Source1 Purchasing provides one check — coming from a single source — delivered once every quarter. This allows Source1 partners to easily put the funds they’ve earned back to work for their organization, in whatever way they choose.

“As former operators ourselves, we’re well aware of the challenges that getting rebates can present — that’s why we’ve made our rebate program completely hassle-free,” said Scott Hoffmire, President and CEO Source1 Purchasing.

“We’re proud to partner with The Culinary Institute LeNôtre,” said Hoffmire. “It’s extremely rewarding to know that this money will continue to provide education to future experts and industry leaders. And who knows, they might someday be Source1 partners!”
